Ph ... Ph ... Phonics!

Tumpat ELC, David La Londe, was asked by the Kota Bharu PPD to give a presentation on Phonics for 96 Year 2 Linus teachers from the Kelantan district.  It was a two day event with a full-house on both days.

David is relaxed and comfortable in front of an audience.  He kind of reminds me of Steve Jobs during one of his presentations.

Audience participation time.  Making a snake-like gesture for the "s" sound.  Ssssss!

All eyes on David.  Everyone, let's do "The Hokey-Pokey."  Ah-one and a two ....

Time to practice proper letter formation.  Look at the concentration level.

Elizabeth Braden, a Mentor in the Tumpat cluster, demonstrates some phonics games she uses in her classes.

Sara Teale, an ELC and member of the Materials Team, came as a guest speaker to discuss using materials to help students learn phonics.

Word Family Wheels for use in speaking practice.  Students love the day glow colors.

David demonstrates a dice game used to focus on the onset and rhyme segment of phonics.

David and Sara show the audience how to play a hop-scotch like phonics game.  "Is that left foot or right foot first?"

Info on where teachers can download many of the materials they saw that day.

Me and two Word Family Wheels.

The Brighton Education team after another successful presentation.  Thank you and good night.

TPD Tumpat

Teachers from two Tumpat clusters came to our last TPD of the year.  David LaLonde gave an fun and informative presentation on phonics.

Happy teachers with their certificates.  Can you see David in the middle?

Little Learners

One of my teachers at SK Chenderong Batu wasn't feeling well so she asked me to help teach the class.  I was glad to jump in and work with her class.  It's always great when you have eager students like her Year 2 class.

After class, the obligatory photo op.  Everyone loves posing for photos.

Norma Binti Mohamed Noor.  One of my top ten teachers.

Hari Raya Korban

SK Sungai Pinang invited me to the celebration they were having at their school to honor the holiday of Hari Raya Korban or "Sacrifice the Cow."  This was the only school in my cluster having such an event.  My teachers explained that they were having the event because of the nearby village.

Happy children gathered in the school hall.  Love the colorful holiday outfits.

These boys throwing me the peace sign.

Ladies preparing some spices.

Another team prepares the meat before cooking.

Before and ...

... after.  Almost ready to eat.

The cooking crew hard at work.  There are a lot of hungry mouths to feed.

Here's a hungry-looking guy.  Maznihan was helping skin five cows at 6am that morning.  He's taking a break from his hard work before chow time.
